Springfield,MO (ORN) – The Missouri State volleyball team (17-9, 8-5 Missouri Valley Conference) looks to add to its four-match winning streak this weekend at home when Illinois State (16-8, 9-3) and Indiana State (11-13, 4-8) pay a visit to Hammons Student Center. First serve Friday against the Redbirds is at 7 p.m., and the Indiana State match begins at the same time Saturday.
Illinois State is 16-8 overall and 9-3 in MVC play. The Redbirds boast a balanced offense with five players averaging at least 2.03 kills per set, and hit .213 as a team with a league-best .141 opponent attack efficiency. Illinois State averages 13.00 kills, 1.18 aces, 17.10 digs and 2.50 blocks per set.
Indiana State is 11-13 overall and 4-8 in league matches. The Sycamores are led by Morgan Dall and her MVC-best 4.38 kills per set, and hit .202 as a team compared to .209 for the opposition with averages of 12.51 kills, 1.11 aces, 15.53 digs and 1.85 blocks per set.
Missouri State has squared off with Illinois State more than any other school, and holds a 46-42 series lead in 88 all-time meetings. Missouri State has been in control of the series lately, winning 22 of the last 29 overall.
Missouri State leads the all-time series with Indiana State by a 54-1 margin, with the Bears’ lone loss occurring in five sets in 1994. Since then, the Bears have reeled off 40 straight wins against the Sycamores.
Missouri State suffered a 3-1 loss at Illinois State on Oct. 12, losing the second and fourth sets by two points each. Olivia Brand led the Bears with an MSU-season-high 19 kills.
The Bears won the final two sets for a 3-2 victory Oct. 11 at Indiana State, hitting .254 as a team in the contest.
