SPRINGFIELD – Basketball season is just around the corner, and the Missouri State women’s basketball program has a number of events scheduled in October and throughout the year to get fans excited for the upcoming season.
The season’s first event is MSU’s annual Jog-A-Thon, which takes place Oct. 2 at 7 a.m. at Plaster Sports Complex. Lady Bear fans can support the program in two ways: By pledging a donation to a particular player for each lap she completes, or by pledging a lump sum. Fans are welcome to come and cheer on the Lady Bears or join them on the track.

The fifth annual Hoops and Heels is set for Sunday, October 13, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel and Oasis Convention Center at 2546 N. Glenstone. The fifth installation of Hoops and Heels will allow fans the opportunity to get acquainted with the Lady Bear players and coaches and socialize with fellow fans in an informal setting. The cost of the event, which includes a meal and drink (non-alcoholic), is $25 per person. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and, for an additional cost of $5, attendees may have their photograph taken with the MSU team from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with a program to follow featuring the Lady Bears. An autograph session with the Lady Bears will immediately follow the program. Fans interested in reserving their spot must RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The first of six Missouri State Lady Bear Breakfasts for the 2013-14 season is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7 a.m. at Golden Corral (2020 E. Primrose). The cost of the buffet-style breakfast is $7 per person and the public is invited to attend. Additional dates include November 19, December 17, January 21, February 18 and March 11. Each breakfast begins at 7 a.m.

The season’s first chance to see the Lady Bears in action on the court will be Oct. 18 at the Twilight Tipoff in Hammons Student Center immediately following the MSU volleyball match against Loyola. The volleyball match starts at 7 p.m., with free admission for the match against the MVC’s newest member. The basketball portion of the evening is also free and will begin with autographs after the volleyball match is completed, at approximately 9 p.m.

MSU is offering three opportunities this season for fans to travel to Lady Bear road games. Bus trips to Arkansas State (Nov. 11), Arkansas (Nov. 22) and Wichita State (March 9) are on the schedule at a cost of $25 each. The cost includes bus fare and one game ticket. Meals are not included in the price. A minimum of 50 passengers is required to make each trip, which leaves from the Missouri State Park N Ride at the intersection of Cherry Street and Holland Avenue before each game and returns that same day.

To make reservations or obtain additional information on all events, contact Terrie Coulter in the women’s basketball office at (417) 836-4136 or TCoulter@MissouriState.edu.
