Scarbrough Club Champion
Rick Scarbrough is the 2013 Club Champion at Willow Springs. Rick topped Danny Bradley 2 up in another match that was in doubt until the 18th hole. Seven of the eight matches in this match play format went down to the last hole in a very competitive tournament. Scarbrough took a 1 up led at the 3rd hole and was never tied throughout the windy afternoon that made scoring very difficult. He extended the lead to 3 after 6 holes by dominating the par 5′s on his way to victory. Bradley was not to be denied as he won the 7th and 10th holes to cut the lead to 1. Scarbrough made a great par save on the par 3 13th by holing a putt from the collar to maintain his slim margin. While over 20 golf carts and 40 spectators watched the play Scarbrough went 2 up on the 15th only to see Bradley cut it back to one with a par on the 17th hole. This set the stage for the dramatic finish with both golfers striping tee shots on the 18th and having identical 140 yard shots over the water to the green. Both pulled their shots left with Scrabrough hitting through some branches but landing safely 20 feet off the green while Bradley was about 15 feet off the green. Scarbrough came through with a clutch chip then calmly holed the par putt for the victory. It was a classic tight affair and a pressure packed ending befitting a club championship. Congratulations to both Rick and Danny for a well played thrilling match that was roundly applauded by all the spectators.
