Mary E. “Betty” Shaver, 88, a resident of Flippin passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, at her son’s home.
She was born July 16, 1925, in Ray, Arizona to the late Homer Kelly and Viola Maude (Horn) Ashby. Betty was a 1946 graduate of the Cadet Nurse Corp under the United States Public Health Service. After graduation she worked at the Oak Ridge Arsenal in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Betty then attended the Moody Bible Institute from 1949 until her graduation in 1952. She married Harold Ray Shaver on August 9, 1952, in Tempe, Arizona. Betty served as a missionary nurse alongside her husband, Harold for Wycliffe Bible Translators for 37 years. She was a member of the Flippin First Baptist Church. Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harold Ray Shaver; her parents; four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Lucinda Shaver of Flippin; David and Donna Shaver of Oaxaca, Mexico; and Dwight and Gwynne Shaver of Mountain Home; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Flippin First Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Burnt School House Cemetery under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be her three sons, Timothy, David and Dwight Shaver, Bruce Shaver, Nathan and April Hutain, Esther VanDyke and Amber Dobies.
