Born on June 19, 1920, to Maude (Rampy) and Adlai S. Hutcherson, in Philadelphia, Missouri, she was raised and went to school in Peace Valley. She married Walter Prine in 1941 and they worked a sawmill and farmed until his untimely death in 1967. She also worked at Bolerjack Drug Store in Mtn. View, for 8 years.

As a widow, she was employed at Angelica Uniform Co. in Mtn. View for 13 years. During that time, she was re-acquainted with a friend from her youth, Kenny Gale, and married him in 1979. They spent 14 happy years living on their farm in Peace Valley, until Kenny’s death in 1994. Geraldine then moved to Mtn. View where she lived alone until she married Lasco Layman in 1998 . They spent 5 happy years together until his passing in 2003.

Geraldine was an expert quilter, loved to travel, and was an excellent cook, well-known for her pies. She knew the Lord and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Peace Valley for many years. She was kind and loving to all. Our hearts ache because she’s gone, but we know she is safe with Jesus.

Preceding her in death were her parents, older brother L.F. Hutcherson; younger sister Vera Lee Hutcherson; nephew Patrick Hutcherson; her 3 loving and fortunate husbands, mentioned above; as well as countless friends and family members. She is survived by brother Dale Hutcherson (P.J.) of Pomona ; her best friend of 40 years, Gladys Kentner (Doug) of Mtn. View ; step-daughters Theresa Gale Peterson (Ron) of Everton, MO and Juliane Gale Bertagne (Allen) of Houston TX; grandsons Terry Gale, Christopher and Jonathan Bertagne, and cousin Doug Rampy, of Iowa.

The family would like to thank her caretakers in her final days, Lana Kentner and Jennett Haynes, who, along with Gladys Kentner, took such loving care of Geri in her home.
