Ray Switzer, 76, a resident of Maryville, Illinois passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at his residence.

He was born October 25, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Raymond Earl, II and Loretta Switzer. Ray was a veteran of the United States Navy. After his military service Ray worked and retired from SIU in 1986 and worked for Senator Sam for 20 years. He married Avis Janette Watson on February 24, 1994. He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville, Illinois. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Marie; a brother, Bill Switzer; a sister, Loretta Switzer; a brother-in-law, Amos Watson; a mother-in-law, Helen and step-father-in-law, Bud Conner.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Janette Switzer of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond Earl and Lynn Switzer of Troy, Illinois and Chris Switzer of Edwardsville, Illinois; two steps-sons and a step-daughter-in-law, Mark D. Crabtree (Dawn) of Granite City, Illinois and James Allen (Kris) Crabtree of Glen Carbon, Illinois; two sisters, Barbara and Dorothy, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Jane Huddleston of Hardy, Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Bill Watson (Mary) of Wilsonville, Missouri; a granddaughter, Lisa Switzer of Troy, Illinois; two step-great grandchildren, Emmaleigh and Gregory Scott.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Barry-Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, Illinois.
