Boyd Elderd Wheeler of Memphis, Missouri left this life at the age of 97 on Wednesday evening, Sept.11, 2013, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis where he had resided for the last two years of his life. The son of Joseph and Anna E. Hays Wheeler, he was born August 27, 1916 in Schuyler County, Missouri. He was saved and baptized as a young man.
In 1935 he married Cella M. Spees and to this union two children were born: Eldred and Loyd Ray. Later in 1943 he was united in marriage to Thelma A. Grogan and in this union he welcomed Thelma’s son, Calvin an they had a son: Leland.
He was a lifelong resident of this area, first graduating from school in Schuyler County, Missouri. After graduating from school he worked in the timber taking out the lumber and continued doing so as long as his health permitted him to.
In his past time he enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and fishing as well as spending time with all his family and friends visiting and teaching his family all that he knew about the interests of his.
He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma of 43 years, his parents, five brothers, Claude, Harold, Ray, Loyd Gail and Vernie, two sisters, Delora and Marjorie
He is survived by his children, Leland (Bud) Wheeler and his wife Patricia of Memphis, Missouri, Elderd Trowbridge and her husband Clarence of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the family for their discretion and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.
Services were held 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 16, 2013, at Willow Springs, Missouri, in the Pleasant Grove Church with Rev. Ben Witt officiating and interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery adjacent to the church.
Pallbearers were Buddy Wheeler, Matthew Wheeler, Josh Wheeler, Monte Trowbridge, Quinten Trowbridge and Joe Talbert.
Honorary pallbearers were Garry Talbert, William Wheeler, Levi Wheeler, Joe Wheeler, Ryan Wheeler an Melvin Henderson.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis for their care locally as well as committal services that were held at Willow Springs, MO.
