She was born December 6, 1939, in Moultrie, Georgia to the late, Clarence Elmo Pate and Ellie Minerva (Johnson) Greene. She was employed as a dispatch sergeant with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, and then as a dispatcher with the Florida Highway Patrol. While living in Florida, Martha loved growing orchids and spending time on the beach with family; after relocating to Arkansas she loved the rural farm life, and has always loved dogs. She was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gerald VanLandingham, Sr. and three brothers, Eugene and Dean Pate, and William Hicks.
Survivors include her husband, Darrell Sherrell of Oxford, Arkansas; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Floyd Goddard of Cocoa, Florida; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald, Jr. and Jamie VanLandingham of Norfork, Arkansas, and Daniel Dean and Coleen VanLandingham of Cocoa, Florida; a brother, Monroe Greene of Mobile, Alabama; two sisters, Anna Busby and Mary Baker, both of Americus, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Corey Whitehead (Victoria), Sean Whitehead, Dustin Goddard, Nicholas Goddard, and Miranda, Rebecca, Jordan, and Sophie VanLandingham, and a great granddaughter, Larkyn Whitehead.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Florida. Burial will be immediately following the service under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home.
