Cecil Vinton Fleming, Jr., age 78, son of the late Cecil Vinton Fleming, Sr, and Belle Weathers Fleming was born in Lyman, Nebraska on September 20, 1934. He passed away on June 30, 2013 in Houston, MO.
Cecil went to Oak Creek School in Oak Creek CO. He attended College at Mesa College in Grand Junction, CO. He served in the Army from June 1956 to June 1959. While he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, he met the love of his life, Lena Mae Jones. They were married on April 4, 1958. They had 5 children: Rhonda, Pam, Terry, Randy, and Larry.
Cecil and Lena moved to Colorado in the early 60’s. The family eventually moved back to Houston, where they made their permanent home.
Cecil worked as a Roughneck in the oil fields in Colorado. He was a truck driver for 25 years. He retired and then went to work for the Houston School District as a bus driver, retiring again, after 11 years. He also loved to help out at this sister-in-law’s restaurant and later at his son Terry’s restaurant.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lena of 42 years, and one son Randy Fleming.
He is survived by his children: Rhonda Fleming Waters and husband Darin of Colorado Springs, CO, Pamela Fleming McKinney and husband Scott, Terry Fleming and wife Cyndee, Larry Fleming and wife Heather, all of Houston, MO, 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 brothers: Tom, Arthur, and Willis, one sister Mary Lou and several other family members and friends.
He accepted the Lord Jesus and was baptized early in life.
He loved making his usual Saturday stop at Whispering Pines savoring a serving of his favorite breakfast dish, biscuits and gravy. He loved the out of doors, working in the yard, mowing or gardening. He really loved his garden, flowers and bird watching.
Cecil loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had special nick names for them. Rhonda’s kids were known as the German Kids because they lived in Germany 4 years although Michael was the only one born there! When Leon was adopted he was known as the Lil Muchacho. In Pam and Scotts family the oldest granddaughter was simply Mandy Jo and Megan was and still is called Squirt. He called Mandy’s oldest daughter Mayci, Blondie and Hayden was Hurricane Hayden. Terry’s kids were the California Kids. Randy’s son was known as Lil Red and now that he is grown he is Big Red.
“Our Dad was the kindest, most gentle man we have ever known. He never ever said a curse word and never lost his temper. He loved his brothers and sisters, wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was loved and respected by everyone that knew him.”
