Shirley Fletcher, 83, of Birch Tree, Missouri departed this life on March 27, 2013 at Willow Care Nursing Home, Willow Springs, Missouri. She was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 19, 1929 to parents, Floyd and Viola Fletcher.

Arrangements are under the direction of Yarber Mortuary.

She spent the first eighteen years of her life at Houghton Lake, graduating from Houghton Lake High School in 1948.

Shirley accepted Christ as her Savior in August, 1944, was baptized and joined the Houghton Lake Bible Church, where her mother was a charter member.

After graduating from high school, she went to Detroit and attended the Detroit Bible Institute, graduating in 1952.

In Shirley’s growing up years, Ruth Allen played an important part as a Spiritual Mentor. When Ruth and her folks moved to Missouri in 1949, they were missed. When Shirley graduated, Ruth asked if she would come and work with her in Missouri. After much prayer and soul searching, she felt the Lord leading in this direction. So, in June, 1952, Shirley joined Ruth in the work.

They taught Bible School in many rural communities, helped at Hammond’s Mill Bible Camp for over 60 years, taught Sunday School, and visited many rural schools giving a Bible Story to many children who never attended Sunday School. They also taught several Women’s Bible Classes.

They gave many hours volunteering in nursing homes, and gave the Word to many residents.

Shirley was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in Southfield, Michigan and an associate member of Pilgrim Rest Community Church in Mountain View.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and Ruth, eight aunts and uncles and a number of cousins.
