Kathryn Alberta (Harris) Ferguson was born as the only child of Ruie (Campbell) Harris and Frank A. Harris on March 23, 1918 in Summersville, MO. She passed away July 18, 2012 at the Gables Assisted Living, Overland Park, KS.
She attended Houston Grade School and at the age of 13 moved to Pierce City, MO graduating from Pierce City High School in 1936. After high school she attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph, MO and graduated as a Register Nurse in 1940.
After graduating from nursing school she returned to Houston and began her nursing career. While working for Dr. Dillman she met her future husband Raymond Ferguson, when he brought his mother into the doctor’s office for treatment. They married on February 20, 1944. To this union two children were born, Bill Ferguson and Carolyn (Ferguson) Norris. While raising her family she worked for Drs. Dillman, Tarr, Beckman, Kelly and Dryer and finally Texas County Memorial Hospital where she spoke at the ground breaking ceremony when construction began in 1958. While working she also taught a home nursing class through the American Red Cross.
Upon retirement in 1983 from the hospital she served on the Advisory Board of Texas County Memorial Hospital for 2 years, Senior Citizen Board, Administrative Board and many committees at The United Methodist Church in Houston.
Alberta was a resident at Licking Residential for 2 years. She had resided in the Gables Assisted Living since September 1, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Alberta is survived by her son Bill Ferguson and wife Leslie of Columbia, MO, and her daughter, Carolyn Norris and husband Roger of Overland Park, KS, and four grandchildren, Kelly Ferguson, Ryan Ferguson, Sarah Norris and Scott Norris and wife Tamara.
