Funeral services for JD Collins, 83, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Curry Street Church of Christ, West Plains, Missouri, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Collins died at 4:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Ozarks Medical Center.
He was born March 15, 1929, at Dora, Missouri, to Jasper Sherman Collins and Alta Jane Russell Collins. He graduated from West Plains High School with the Class of 1947. Mr. Collins was a veteran having served with the United States Navy. On June 12, 1955, he was married in West Plains, Missouri, to the cherished love of his life, Maxine Mae Cope. Before his retirement, Mr. Collins was a farmer and a bus driver for Howell Valley School. He loved his family, children, grandchildren, St. Louis Cardinals, and above all he loved the Lord. Mr. Collins was a member of the Curry Street church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Collins, of the family home; two children, David Collins, wife, Pamela, Rogersville, Missouri and Jeff Collins, West Plains, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Jesse Collins, wife, Brittney, Nicholas Collins, Jhett Collins, Jade Collins, Jaxon Collins, Chandler Collins, Hannah Collins and Jedidiah Collins; five great-grandchildren, Jragen, Jagger, Makynlee, Jade Magnolia, Brooklyn; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Collins “Buck Jen”; nieces, Ginya Sue Moore, Colleen Pelton, Cindy Latham, Lois Latham, Sherry Cope and Tammy Cope; one special great-niece, Amber Light; and several nephews.
His parents, one son, Jonathan Collins, and two brothers, Marvin Collins, Sr. and Basil Collins, precede him in death.
Mr. Collins will lie in state from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2012, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Howell Valley Cemetery.
