57-year-old Ricky Friend pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges that stem from an investigation from this past summer.
According to the plea agreement, an employee of a computer repair store contacted the FBI after finding child pornography on Friend’s desktop computer, which was in for repairs after a storm.
After Friend picked up his repaired computer, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Friend’s home and seized the computer, two digital cameras and other related items. Authorities say a child porn video was downloading to Friend’s computer when the officers arrived.
A forensic examination of Friend’s computer and other items revealed 2,962 images of child porn and 175 videos, some of which depicted bondage and bestiality involving minor children and images of child porn where the victims appear to be under the age of 3.
He is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of 20 years, plus a fine up to $250,000 under federal statutes. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a pre-sentence investigation.
The FBI, the Springfield Police Department and the Wright County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case.
