(Ava) – The American Red Cross, in partnership with Douglas County Emergency Management, has opened a satellite office at 203 SW 2nd Street in Ava, and will be holding an open house this week to celebrate.

The open house will be held on Wednesday from 11 AM to 1 PM. Red Cross staff will be there to answer questions, provide information on the programs the American Red Cross offers, provide safety information as well as offer volunteer opportunities. There will also be Christmas cards available for the public to sign and mail in support of the Holiday for Heroes program, which sends cards to active duty military members.

Organizers say the Ava office will be staffed by Red Cross personnel one day per week with November hours being Tuesdays from 9 AM to 3 PM. Beginning in December the office days will change permanently to Thursday’s from 9 AM to 3 PM.
