(Ozark Radio News) – Today is the National Drug Take Back Event, which will be held across the region.
Law enforcement agencies across the region will be collecting unused or unwanted pharmaceuticals throughout the day. All pharmaceuticals are accepted, including veterinary and over-the-counter drugs. No signatures are required and no questions are asked.
The purpose is to help everyone get rid of unwanted pharmaceuticals; prevent drugs from getting into the wrong hands by theft or curious children; and provide a proper way to dispose of prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and veterinary drugs so they do not pollute our water.
Water testing has found pharmaceuticals in water from water treatment plants and leaking landfills in the area.
Officials say collection and incineration is the only viable solution at this time.
Places participating today include the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Howell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Houston Police Department.
