(Willow Springs) – Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced that a woman who ran away from a deadly shooting in Douglas County on Thursday has been captured, and the man killed by Sheriff Chris Degase has been identified.

Representatives with Troop G say 30-year-old Crystal Prock was arrested around 6:48 PM Thursday evening at a relative’s residence near the scene of the shooting.

The shooting happened around 8:30 AM Thursday morning, when Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase responded to a call from a homeowner who said a man and a woman were working on a disabled maroon car in front of their home on Douglas County Road 542 near the Douglas-Christian County border. Troop G Information Officer Sgt. Marty Elmore says that after arriving and questioning the two, Degase recognized Prock as having a warrant for her arrest and attempted to apprehend her.

Elmore says that a struggle ensued between Degase and Prock, and the man, identified as 41-year-old David Phillips of Hillsdale, Illinois, allegedly made threatening statements and advanced on the officer with a weapon in hand. Elmore says that Degase then shot and killed Phillips, and Prock ran away into a wooded area near the scene.

Officers from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, Troops D and G of the Highway Patrol, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control responded to the scene after the shooting.

Online records show Prock has a history of several crimes including stalking, adult abuse, and theft, as well as numerous traffic and parole violations.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will investigate the shooting.
