(Rolla) – A West Plains man is the sole survivor of a two-vehicle wreck that killed two St. Louis residents Monday morning near Rolla.
The accident happened at 8:35 AM on Interstate 44, eight miles west of Rolla, according to Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A westbound car driven by 28-year-old Jama Ali of St. Louis reportedly drove off-road, returned to the roadway and struck the rear of a semi driven by 51-year-old Kenneth Carroll of West Plains.
Ali and a passenger, 41-year-old Liban Dirie of St. Louis, were pronounced dead at the scene by Phelps County deputy coroner Lenox Jones. Carroll was uninjured in the accident.
Troop I says the deaths marked the 29th and 30th fatalities of the year for the troop.
