(Willow Springs) – The Willow Springs City Council approved the library and general tax levies for the 2012 tax year at the regular council meeting, held Monday evening at 7 PM at city hall.

The 2012 rates for both the general and library tax will be the same rate as the 2011 tax rate. A public hearing was held at the beginning of the meeting, and was closed after no public comments were made.

The council also reviewed and approved a resolution to approve pursuing grant funding from the Department of Public Safety for a Law Enforcement Block Grant, as well as a resolution to pursue grant funding for mobile data terminals through the Missouri Police Chiefs Association.

In other business, City Attorney Steve Privette introduced an ordinance that would ban the sale of ephedrine products without a prescription. Privette noted that Willow Springs is the only city in Howell county that has not enacted an ordinance of this type. After review and discussion, the council requested a final draft be added to the September agenda, which will be held September 13 at 7 PM. Also to be added to the September agenda is an ordinance proposal that defines and prohibits disorderly conduct.
