(Houston) – A manual recount in the Republican race for Texas County Sheriff has confirmed that James Sigman of Cabool was elected as the nominee and will go on to the November election.
The recount, which took roughly 3 hours on Monday, determined that the race was decided by a total of 23 votes.
The defeated candidate, Tim Ceplina of Houston, filed for a recount this past Friday after losing 2,117-2,096 in the electronic count. State statute allow recounts if the difference is 1 percent or less of the total cast in the race.
The manual count confirmed 2,117 votes for Sigman plus two under votes for a total of 2,119 votes. The vote for Ceplina showed 2,095 manual votes and one under vote for a total of 2,096.
Sigman will face Democrat Melissa Dunn of Houston in November for the position of sheriff.
