(Licking) – A soldier from Cabool has suffered critical injuries while serving in Afghanistan.

Sergeant Jesse McCart, who was stationed with the 123rd Infantry in Fort Lewis, Washington, will be transferred back to a military hospital in the United States, after he was wounded by an IED. He was deployed to Afghanistan in March of this year, and also served a tour of duty in Iraq in 2009.

The Cabool Enterprise reports that Sgt. McCart’s injuries led to the amputation of his right leg at the knee and his left leg below the knee. Sgt. McCart was transferred to a Germany medical facility Thursday morning and is expected to be flown stateside soon.

McCart’s wife and three children live in Cabool.

A fund to benefit Sgt. McCart and his family has been set up at Cabool State Bank.
