(Jefferson City) (AP) – Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation requiring Missouri motorists to allow more space for stopped Transportation Department vehicles.
Missouri law already requires motorists to change lanes and yield for stopped police cars, ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Nixon signed legislation Monday adding state transportation agency vehicles with amber or white lights, including those marked for emergency response or for motorist assistance.
Expanding the “move over” law was among the priorities for the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
Nixon also signed legislation Monday that continues a fee for collecting criminals’ DNA samples. The surcharge set to expire in August 2013 will be extended until 2019. It also eliminates a requirement that the money be redirected to the state’s general account if state revenue doesn’t grow sufficiently.
