(Mountain Home) – Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery is alerting the public of a possible magazine sale scam in the area.
Deputies recently took a report of a person going door to door selling magazine subscriptions purportedly on behalf of GAPP, the local German American Partnership Program at Mountain Home High School. According to the sheriff, some of the people who had purchased subscriptions began questioning the salesperson, which led them to believe that this was not a legitimate fundraising effort.
The Sheriff’s Office has verified with representatives from GAPP that they were not going door to door selling magazines or any other items, nor have they contracted with anyone to do so on their behalf.
Sheriff Montgomery warns residents not to purchase magazines or conduct business with magazine sales agents who are unable to verifying their legitimacy, and if you are contacted by anyone attempting to sell magazine subscriptions who is unable to provide valid or verifiable credentials, you should contact local law enforcement.
