(Springfield) – If you were hoping for some relief from the heat this week, or better yet, some rain, you’re out of luck this week and most of next week.
The National Weather Service in Springfield says that temperatures for the region will almost hit 100 degrees today, with high in the upper 90s later this week, and highs expected to be around 100 Thursday and Friday. No rain is forecasted until next weekend.
With the dry drought conditions in effect, there is an elevated fire risk for the next week or two.
Officials with the NWS urge people to check on the elderly, and keep a close eye on pets and livestock during the heat wave.
