(Willow Springs) – The city of Willow Springs and a property owner are currently at odds over a property clean-up issue.

The issue with How and Halle States, property owners in the city, and the city of Willow Springs started around 2002. That’s when the city says they began receiving complaints of States’ property being an eyesore and a nuisance. After issuing several tickets to the States, the city adopted a new nuisance ordinance that would allow the city to shut off utilities to the property and force the homeowners to leave the property for up to a year, with the city being allowed to claim any money spent in a clean-up.

A public hearing was recently held where a judge ruled that the States has until March 29 to clean up the property or the city can shut off his utilities and demand the States’ leave the property.

Eric Scott, a friend of the family, spoke with Ozark Radio News and told us more about the situation:

Scott added that the States’ are not behind on their bills, and the city has no right kicking them out of the property. He added that he has contacted the Missouri Attorney General’s office concerning the situation:

Willow Springs City Administrator Bob Pollard says that the recent steps taken by the city were done as a last resort:

The States have until March 29 to clean their property up. In a phone interview with Ozark Radio News, How States said that his son and a friend of his son’s are working on cleaning up the property.
