(Mountain Home) – Arkansas State University-Mountain Home has announced that the college plans to grow its vocational and technical program offerings and expand the space where these programs will be offered.

Meeting on the grounds of a local Buick GMC dealership, Chancellor Dr. Robin Myers and Ultimate Buick GMC representative Sara Zimmerman announced the college’s leasing agreement for the Ultimate Buick GMC building located at 4034 Highway 62 West in Mountain Home.

The lease will begin August 1, 2014.

The building, which is 23,000 square feet of space, with over 16,300 square feet enclosed and 7,000 square feet under a roof, will house classes for the existing welding and mechatronics programs. Currently, welding is offered on the ASUMH campus and mechatronics is offered at Baxter Lab.

On January 31, ASUMH will present two new programs to the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board for approval: Automotive System Repair Technical Certificate and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technical Certificate. The ASU System Board approved these programs on December 14, 2013. The college is shooting for a mid-summer move-in date for welding and mechatronics, with HVAC and automotive classes enrolling in the fall, pending approve from the AHECB.
