(West Plains) – Sixty-eight students from high schools across the state, as well as Illinois, gathered at the Shoe Factory Lofts in West Plains for a weekend leadership conference. The Beta Leadership Conference helps prepare students to become leaders in their schools and in their communities.

The students met for 4 different sessions that were filled with fun, educational activities including an empathy dinner to promote empathy and awareness for others. Students were given “disabilities” that they had to keep throughout the meal ranging from blindness, muteness, and physical disabilities. The students and sponsors also attended a MSU Grizzly basketball game.

Each student also brought hygiene items to donate to the Boys and Girls Club. West Plains High School had six Betas attend the conference as well the Beta Club sponsors, Mrs. Tracie Joiner and Mrs. Melanie Martin. The Beta Club will attend the State Convention in March at Branson, Missouri.
