(West Plains) – A special election for residents of the Junction Hill C-12 School District was held Tuesday, and sought raise the tax levy ceiling to raise funds for the development, construction, equipping and furnishing of a storm shelter, and was passed 183 to 113.

The issue, called Proposition 1, will increase the tax ceiling by roughly $.54 to $3.43 per hundred dollars of assessed valuation from 2014 to 2017. Junction Hill Superintendent, John Dern told Ozark Radio News why this tax increase is important to the district:

Between the polling times of 6AM-7PM, 23.8% or 293 of the 1250 registered voters came to the Junction Hill School to cast their vote.
