(West Plains) – From middle schools to universities, theatre and media teachers from across Missouri attend the annual Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri (STAM) conference September 19-21, with West Plains High School Theatre teacher Melissa Harper winning the STAM New Teacher of the Year award.
Ms. Harper was honored by the attendance of her colleagues, Andy Hanson and Christina Staab, both with Zizzer Speech and Debate. Ms. Harper was surprised by West Plains High School principal Jack Randolph and four Zizzer Speech/Debate/Theatre students who spoke to the audience about Ms. Harper. After receiving the award, Ms. Harper spoke to the audience about her great education at MSU and the mentors she had, which included Wendy Czerwonka, the wife of former district superintendent Fred Czerwonka.
During Ms. Harper’s first year as the theatre instructor, the Zizzer Theatre advanced both One Act Play and Reader’s Theatre to state competition.
