(Mountain Home) – Baxter County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for a beating at a park north of Mountain Home on New Year’s Day.

27-year-old Adam Mudgett of Cotter was arrested and charged with Felony Battery after allegedly beating a 71-year-old man from Mountain Home and leaving him at Pigeon Creek Park on the evening of January 1.

The Mountain Home man suffered head injuries, and when questioned, was unable to provide information. Detectives gathered evidence and interviewed Mudgett, who said he and the victim struck up a conversation, where a report says the victim “began to speak of things that made Mudgett uncomfortable”. Mudgett reportedly admitted to hitting the man two or three times, then driving away.

Authorities say that Mudgett gave them conflicting statements regarding the incident over the following weeks.

Mudgett posted a $25,000 bond and is due back in court on April 12.
