(West Plains) – Ozarks Medical Center and the West Plains Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the new OMC Sleep Lab at noon on September 19. The new facility is located at No. 11 Parkway Center in West Plains.
The OMC Sleep Lab offers testing, including overnight sleep studies, to help find the source of an individual’s sleep problems and staff works with a patient’s personal physician to provide necessary treatment. The Sleep Lab is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
The new Sleep Lab offers four bedrooms for sleep studies. Each bedroom has a private restroom with shower, flat screen television, sound-proof walls and individually controlled heating and cooling unit.
The Sleep Lab performs studies on people of all ages, including children. The staff includes four technicians, who are licensed respiratory therapists and/or registered in polysomnography (sleep studies). Each sleep test performed at the OMC Sleep Lab is interpreted by a Board Certified Sleep Specialist with specialized training in sleep disorders.
Roughly 60 million Americans suffer from some sort of sleep disorder. A person’s family practice physician may request a sleep study if a patient experiences problems such as trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, difficulties adhering to a consistent sleep cycle, sleep walking, difficulties staying awake or excessive snoring. Sleep apnea, a breathing disorder that can interrupt your sleep hundreds of times a night and can cause life-threatening medical problems, is among the most common sleep disorders.
