(West Plains) – In previous years, Officer Brad Jones with the West Plains Police Department split his time between the high school, middle school and elementary school. Last spring the West Plains School District and the City of West Plains jointly funded the hiring of two additional school resources officers for the 2013-2014 school year.

Officer Sean Barrett is the new full time School Resource Officer at the West Plains Elementary and Officer Rusty Smith is the new full time School Resource Officer at the West Plains High School. Officer Jones now serves at the West Plains Middle School.

Sean Barrett has been an officer with the West Plains Police Department since 2008, while Rusty Smith has been an officer with the WPPD since 2001. Both are certified in Basic and Advanced School Resource Officer Training.

West Plains Schools Superintendent Dr. John Mulford says the district is continually reviewing safety plans, and the addition of school resource officers is part of that plan. He added that the district is committed to providing safe schools where students can learn and teachers can teach.
