(West Plains) – The West Plains City Council has voted to keep the current tax rates for the general revenue and library funds.

Finance Director Dixie Williams told the council at their special Monday meeting that the current and proposed rates were .2971 per $100 assessed valuation for general fund, and .2000 per $100 of assessed valuation for the library fund. The city was assessed at a higher valuation this year, and because of the assessed valuation, the city will receive an increase of $13,309.60, or 1.86%, over 2012.

The City of West Plains was valued at $148,909,958 for 2013, compared to $143,603,434 in 2012.

The council also approved fireworks at the fairgrounds October 19 for the local boy scout troop after their Scoutapalooza event, and allowed City Administrator Tom Stehn to implement the TRIM grant, a $10,000 Grant to help pay for tree trimming and a tree survey by the MDC in the city of West Plains.
