(Little Rock) (AP) – Authorities in Arkansas are encouraging relatives of missing people to allow officials to collect their DNA at an event next month in an effort to try to find the missing.

The event, called “Never Forgotten: Arkansas Takes Action,” is slated to take place on Sept. 14 in Little Rock.

It follows a similar missing persons’ event last year that led authorities to identify the remains of an east Arkansas man who had been missing for more than a decade.

Relatives of Tommy Lee Newingham of Earle provided DNA samples a year ago.

Those samples were logged into a national DNA database, and officials matched them with Newingham’s remains that were found in Memphis, Tenn., in 2011.
