(West Plains) – The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has announced the final numbers from their West Plains Lock-Up event held June 27.

A total of 130 area jailbirds and their supporters helped the the MDA raise a total of $31,786, exceeding the previous year’s total by over $5,000.

The Top Ten Jailbirds were Tom Marhefka, Ozark Radio Network; Lisa Ray, Willow Health Care; Doug Hawkins, 3 Rivers Hospice; Mark Warren, Century Link; Jim Williamson; Kevin Bagley, McClain Forest Products; Richard Huff; Bendie Anderson, Allstate Insurance; Markey Schweiger, Skillets; and Staci Bingman, West Plains Bank. A total of 30 people made the bail of $500 and will receive a special award from MDA.

All jailbirds also received a souvenir “mug shot” with Terry Sanders, a prominent Branson performer who was performing the part of Barney Fife from the “Andy Griffith Show”.

The money raised will help maintain the Association’s hospital-affiliated clinics at Mercy Hospital in Springfield and Joplin which offers diagnostic and follow-up care for people with neuromuscular disorders.
