20-year-old Kayla Cork of Ava and formerly of Norwood was held at report time on $500,000 bond.
Wright County Sheriff Glenn Adler says that a Wright County Jury indicted Cork on June 28. A press release says that on August 3, 2012, first responders and law enforcement responded to a residence on Dryer Road north of Norwood to a call of a roughly 7-month-old baby who was not breathing and later died. An investigation was started on the cause of the baby’s death, and Adler says that the autopsy results showed the baby had been abused.
Results of the autopsy took a while for the doctor to complete his report. Also the Missouri State Technical Assistance Team was called into to help investigate this case.
Authorities developed Cork as a suspect, and checked several residences in and around Ava and was unable to located her. Information was received that Cork had left Ava and was at a residence in Seymour, where she was arrested by the Seymour Police Department.
