(West Plains) – West Plains Middle School seventh grade students collected 152 pounds of pop tabs for Ronald McDonald Houses.

The entire 7th grade class received free time outside and students who brought in 1 pound or more were also treated an ice cream party from Spring Dipper. The top winners in each class period also received a movie pass with concessions to the Glass Sword.

Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because it’s more hygienic to store tabs than cans, and collection and storage is easier. After the tabs are collected, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter a check for the total value.

One pound of tabs equals 1,267 pop tabs.
