(West Plains) – Several students at Missouri State University-West Plains planted a Kwanzan Cherry Tree just west of the Smith-London Centennial Bell Tower in honor of Earth Day April 22 and Arbor Day April 26.

The tree planting followed a presentation by Dave Mayers, regional fisheries supervisor with the Missouri Department of Conservation, who gave a brief history of Earth and Arbor Days and discussed how pollution concerns have changed in the years since they were first celebrated. Approximately 50 students, faculty and staff attended the ceremony.

Dogwood seedlings also were given to those attending for planting at their homes.
