(Jefferson City) – Missouri senators spend several hours debating the 13 bills that comprise the Fiscal Year 2014 Missouri operating budget.

Senator Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee. As he was describing the bills, he took time to tell his colleagues about some of the different proposals that have been presented on some of the aspects of the upcoming budget, including state employee pay:

Senate Minority Floor Leader Jolie Justus, D-Kansas City, mentions the current version of the 2014 Fiscal Year budget is out of balance, based on the governor’s indications that he would veto certain bills that relate to some of the state’s funding:

The budget passed on Monday by Missouri Senators did not include funding for Governor Jay Nixon’s Medicaid expansion.
