pogue1The most common question I answer as a representative is, “How do you like it in Jefferson City? Is it everything you thought it would be?” I had the privilege of speaking at the Salem Rotary Meeting while I was home on spring break, and was able to answer this question more in depth than in casual conversation. My answer was this: “Yes, I do enjoy my job as your representative in Jefferson City.” I enjoy researching the topics by calling constituents to see how my vote will affect them. I have the opportunity to get the opinions of school administrators, teachers, bankers, farmers, workers, county officials and families to see how my vote will best be cast for the people of our area.

The best advice I have received for this role of representative was from one of my mentors, Mike Dethrow. He told me, “As state representative, your job is to protect the rights and money of the taxpayers.” These words of “Dethrownomics” line up with words from Ronald Reagan, “. . . as government expands, liberty contracts.” This philosophy governs each decision I make in Jefferson City. I continue to be humbled and honored to be your voice in our state government.
