(West Plains) – Landmark Bank in West Plains is the latest addition to the Wall of Donors at the Garnett Library on the Missouri State University-West Plains campus.

Bank officials recently made a “recognition-level” gift to the Friends of the Garnett Library to help support a three-phase project designed to bring the library into the 21st century, according to Friends officials.

Officials say that some of the needs of the library include more space for collaborative learning and more electrical outlets for laptops and mobile devices. The installation of compact shelving, which would free up more space in the library, also is part of the project’s first phase.

Area residents can find out more about the Garnett Library project at the Friends May 10 meeting at noon. Those attending will tour the facility at 304 W. Trish Knight St. for a detailed look at proposed changes.

Last fall, Friends officials set the theme of this year’s fund-raising activities as “Catching Up With the Future of Libraries.” Funds collected through the organization’s various events will go toward the library project.

The next fundraiser is the “You’re Just My Style” fashion show and luncheon set for April 12 at the West Plains Country Club. Tickets for the event, sponsored by The Kloz Klozet and Cottage Flowers and Interiors, are $25 each and available at the businesses or at the Missouri State-West Plains development office in Kellett Hall, 905 W. Main St.

Friends officials said area residents and businesses also can show their support for the library project by making their own recognition-level donation or by joining the Friends of the Garnett Library. The group meets monthly, usually in Rooms 104-105 of the Lybyer Technology Center. There is no fee for the meeting, but the cost of the luncheon is $9.
