(West Plains) – Saturday, April 13 marks the 85th anniversary of the Bond Dance Hall explosion in West Plains that occurred in 1928, and to commemorate the event, the people of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 107 S. Curry St. in West Plains, will observe the anniversary during their 10:30 AM worship service on Sunday, April 14.

The service will, in part, utilize the form of worship employed by the Episcopal Church in 1928, including hymnals from the 1920s.

Head priest at All Saints, Mike Kyle, says that author Lin Waterhouse, author of The West Plains Dance Hall Explosion, will speak during worship. Kyle says attendees will have a chance to meet the author during a reception following worship, and copies of her book will be available for purchase.

At 11:05 PM on April 13, 1928, a violent explosion occurred in the building where the dance hall was located, killing 37 people and injuring over 20. Twenty of the dead were never positively identified and were buried in a mass grave at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
