(Rolla) – A Pomona man who assaulted a state trooper after a traffic stop four years ago received a 30-year prison sentence last Friday.

26-year-old Larry Brashears was found guilty last November for 2nd Degree Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, 1st Degree Robbery, Stealing, Resisting Arrest and Armed Criminal Action.

Brashears was stopped by Corporal Curtis Haden on Highway 63 March 22, 2008 after a report of a suspicious car that was in a commuter parking lot near Houston.

During the stop, Cpl. Haden found Brashears had several arrest warrants. When the trooper tried to arrest Brashears, the trooper said Brashears managed to strike him and get him in a headlock. Brashears grabbed the trooper’s gun and held him trooper at gunpoint, taking his wallet. He was later arrested after a three-hour manhunt.

Online court records show Brashears plans to appeal his conviction and sentence.
