38-year-old Raymond Stewart of Brosley is accused of molesting and having intercourse with a 16-year-old female at Doniphan High School. If convicted, Stewart can be incarcerated from 2-7 years and be fined up to $5000 on the charge of Statutory Rape, and up to four years in jail and a $5000 fine on the Sexual Contact charge.
A probable cause statement from the Ripley County Court says the 16-year-old female victim met with authorities on January 11, and told them that Stewart started calling her and other girls at the school “wifey”, and she “assumed it was a joke”. One day she went into the ice room, where Stewart reportedly molested her and had intercourse with her. The victim claimed that Stewart told her “Don’t tell anyone, if you do I’ll just deny it. Not even your best friend”.
The victim also told authorities that Stewart had attempted to get the her alone in his office several times, but she always found a way to not be alone with him. The document says the victim told Patrolman Brian Walker with the Doniphan Police Department that Stewart had been treating her 15-year-old friend the same way he treated her at first, and the victim told her friend that she shouldn’t be alone with Stewart.
Doniphan R-1 District Superintendent Kevin Sandlin issued a statement to Ozark Radio News, saying the Doniphan Board of Education met January 10 and in the meeting the board authorized the issuance of charges of dismissal for immoral conduct against Ray Stewart. Jason Andrews has been assigned the position of interim head coach for the rest of the 2012-2013 boys basketball season.
Sandlin says that Stewart will have a chance to appeal the dismissal charges.
