A report from the Highway Patrol states the accident happened at 2 AM on Highway 60, when a westbound vehicle driven by 27-year-old Ashlea Harper was rear-ended by another westbound vehicle driven by 36-year-old Christopher Fields. Harper’s vehicle then ran off-road and struck a dirt embankment, overturning numerous times and ejecting Harper from the vehicle. Fields’ vehicle traveled a short distance on the highway before running off-road.
Fields then reportedly fled from the scene of the accident on foot, and was arrested a short time later. He was charged with Felony Involuntary Manslaughter, Felony Leaving the Scene of the Accident, Misdemeanor Following Too Closely, and Littering.
The death is Troop G of the Highway Patrol’s 38th death for the year, and the fourth in the month of December.
