(West Plains) – Rumors of expected student violence or illegal activity in the West Plains R-7 School District were addressed by the district through a press release on Sunday and a meeting for parents and caretakers Monday night. The district told parents that the rumor was traced to the source and that no threat was found.

District Superintendent Dr. Fred Czerwonka spoke with Ozark Radio News and reiterated that statement to us:

Czerwonka says that, despite no perceived threat, the school has increased security at all of the schools in the district. On the question if this will be a permanent increase, Dr. Czerwonka said that it depends:

Dr. Czerwonka also told Ozark Radio News that attendance since the rumors started and came to light has not been affected much:

Still, he said that he knows that some parents will be keeping their children home on Friday. Czerwonka said that kids kept home will be given an “excused absence”:

Czerwonka also said that disciplinary options will be explored for the student who had planned the “flash mob”:

Over 200 parents and caretakers attended Monday evening’s informational meeting.
